The W8 Passat is one of those “in theory” cars - probably super cool, but definitely not worth the hassle or potential for disaster.

I have the 2002 V6 doppleganger to this car (4motion, full leather, power everything, etc) and it’s been pretty solid. But if anything goes wrong in the W8 engine, it’s usually terrible. That particular component is the dealbreaker and it’s hard to find anyone to work on them who isn’t a dealership.

When I was car shopping I found an ad for a green, B5.5, 4motion, Passat, Wagon that was labeled as having a manual trans. But sad it was auto. I honestly would have considered it.

Does it count if I don’t drive it during that year? Or is a VW not broken until you go to drive it? Something like Schrodinger’s car - you can’t tell if it is broken until you go to use it.
